Short concerts usually on a Saturday morning of under an hour, no interval, no tickets, donations on the door welcomed and encouraged! Leave the stresses of fast-paced digitally-driven 21st century life behind – come, relax, experience a sense of sanctuary in God’s house whilst you soak up exquisite live music ..
Previously our performances have included viola, violin and piano recitals of works by Shostakovich and Massanet, solo French Horn concerts including Vivaldi, Mozart and Poulenc, piano recitals by Ashok Gupta of works by Beethoven and Lizst, etc etc.

PREVIOUS EVENTS HELD AT CHRIST CHURCH
Held on
Saturday 23rd November 2019 at 7.30pm at Christ Church
DUKE ELLINGTON'S
Sacred Concert
(Big Band, Soprano and Tap Dancer)
JP AllStars Big Band and Singers, Soprano Vickie Long, Musical Director Paul McLaughlin.
Not many people know that Ellington was a man with a living Christian faith. A night for jazz enthusiasts, choral fans and lovers of great music. Bringing The Cotton Club to church!
Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert is a rarely performed work featuring big band, mixed choir, soprano soloist and tap dancing!
Gentle contemplation with driving big band swing; soaring soprano with rich choral textures; tight ensemble playing with scintillating solos.
A musical force of great power and tender devotion. Although very well known for his popular song and big band style pieces, Ellington, unusually for jazz musicians of his generation, was exposed to opera and other classical music at home. His three Sacred Concerts of the 1960s and early 70s show both his great skill in creating longer suites of music, as well as illustrating his lifelong spirituality.
